The Department was established in the year 2001 with an intake of 60 students. The intake was increased to 120 in 2006 and 180 in 2011. An additional intake of 60 seats was sanctioned in 2015 under a shift programme. From 2020-2021 onwards, the shift programme intake is converted to regular intake then total intake 240. The intake was increased to 300 in 2024. The postgraduate programme is VLSI System Design, which was sanctioned in 2008 with an intake of 18 seats, Internet of Things in 2025 with intake of 18 seats. The Department was accredited by the NBA four times, recently accredited in June 2024. The Department is headed by Dr. B. Subrahmanyeswara Rao with Teaching Experience of 24 Years. The Department has 10 Doctorates with highly experienced, well-qualified teaching and non-teaching faculty. The Department has highly furnished classrooms, laboratories and staff rooms with Wi-Fi facilities. The Department has smart classrooms with interactive panels and LCD Projectors. The Department has good number of publications in SCI journals, NPTEL certifications by the faculty and registered 9 patents. The Department has the IEEE Communication society & an IETE Student form. The Department is contributing towards research by encouraging the faculty in various fields and the Nano Technology research center was established in 2009.
